Our History
Our Past
DV Pediatrics was established in 2002, and Dr. Vicki has been caring for the children and young adults of Canton and the surrounding communities ever since. DV Pediatrics is a private pediatric practice dedicated to providing our community with quality, comprehensive primary care. As a private practice, our patients have unmatched access to the provider of their choice, and our providers can spend more time and energy on our patients and the concerns of their parents. As a staff, we call ourselves a family and, for the previously-mentioned reasons, we often say that our patients and their families are part of the DV Pediatrics family.
Just like any traditional family has its challenges, we at DV Pediatrics are no strangers to facing challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic decimated private practices across the nation; many sources estimate about 16,000 private practices (or 8% of healthcare practices nationwide) permanently closed at the height of the pandemic. DV Pediatrics persisted through those unprecedented times through ingenuity, offering parking lot visits where our nurses and providers went outside to see patients in their parents cars.
Less than two years after the pandemic began, another local private pediatric had a sprinkler pipe burst and their office flooded. Within a year, they announced permanent closure. We accepted many of those patients who suddenly found themselves without a pediatrician, but then the unthinkable happened—we suffered a similar flood due to a burst sprinkler pipe when the temperature snapped down to -1° F in the wee hours of Christmas Eve 2023.
Thanks to some fortunate contacts in our wonderful community, we were back in one side of our building in less than two months. But being out of business even that long would have been lethal for the vast majority of small businesses, so we bridged that gap the best we could by making house calls and, learning from the pandemic, seeing sick patients in the parking lot when the weather allowed.
When we returned to our building, we still had adjustments to make while they continued to restore the rest of our building. We went from 12 exam rooms to four, had a much smaller waiting area, and several personnel had to transition to working from home. After an initial estimated restoration time of at least six months, we transitioned back into the main part of our building after just four months.
We have a lot to be proud of at DV Pediatrics, and our resilience as a private practice is high on the list. In the midst of what feels like explosive growth of corporate healthcare, the fact that DV Pediatrics continues to serve our community is as a testament to our dedication to providing quality, personal care to our patients and families. And we aren't planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
